O'Grady's parents have been Jim O'Grady who is a financial adviser and Jan O'Grady. Her parents raised her within Wheaton (Illinois) where she completed her studies in 1981 at Wheaton's North High School. The model was featured on several commercials for television before moving from Illinois to Los Angeles. O'Grady's early career was as model for Montgomery Ward model, where she also made several commercials.
